It may look like just another field of tall grasses, but on closer inspection this is flax, a tall slender plant with a halo of pretty blue flowers, grown in the Canadian Prairies primarily for the manufacturing of linseed oil, and for the health benefits derived from the seeds.  Flax fibre is three times stronger than cotton and has a lustrous sheen, it is also the origins of cool, crisp linen yarn.

This season Katia features three linen qualities in their collection, Linen, Lino and Linda, in dressy and sporty styles for women and men.  Have a peek at some of the latest designs knit with summer's coolest fibre-

From Katia's new Elegance Collection, a pretty raindrop stitch pullover knit in Lino, a pure linen yarn.

This summer top has an easy breezy look, a simple design knit from side-to-side, in Katia's Linda, a slubby linen and viscose mix.

We have this stunning pullover on display in the store, it is knit in one piece from sleeve to sleeve, with a natural boatneck and just two seams to sew up.  Knit in Katia's Linen, a 50/50 blend of cotton and linen.

This classic tunic design features subtle stocking stitch stripes, a roll neckline and longer length sleeves.  Knit in Lino.

Ribbed detail and a splash of watermelon hues in this pullover make an interesting combination.  Knit in Linda by Katia.

Bolivia is truly eye candy for knitters, with its unusual shading and slubby texture that transitions from a thick wool to a fine silvery bamboo fibre.

Spring Sensations

From one day to the next, the weather has been fickle over the past few weeks, ranging from high humidity, and days that are drier than the Gobi desert, then the rain comes and sticks around.  The one thing we can count on is lots of new knitting projects to keep us busy until the sun shines again.

Katia has always been at the top of the fashion ladder when it comes to Euro-style knitwear, with two fantastic collections each season.

Here are a few promising picks from both Elegance and Sport-    

A pretty mix of candy colouring knit in Hydra with silk ribbons woven through afterwards. 

Linda is a new quality this Spring, a linen and viscose blend that comes in earthy colourways, and knits up with loads of body and drape for these two styles, a swingy tunic or a long cardigan.

This hot coral colour makes this striped pullover really pop.  Knit in Temis, a slubby cotton yarn that has an airy texture.

AZAHAR

Well....... if you thought ruffle scarves were just for the winter have a look again as Katia continues to set the bar higher and higher with futuristic yarns.  We have just knit up this summerlicious scarf in AZAHAR, a very unique woven ribbon in a lovely cotton blend, the perfect accessory to dress up a plain T shirt or a denim jacket.  One skein makes this scarf in an afternoon and all for under ten dollars!  It is also a fabulous embellishment for instant pizazz as an edging on a plain sweater or a few accent rows on a cardigan.
