Summer Blues

There is something so calm and peaceful about the colour blue- the sky, the water. It all came together in this picture of my nephew playing at the water's edge, in his faded denim shirt and little engineer cap, oblivious to everything around him except his toy dump truck, the sand and the sound of gulls overhead.Blue is a colour that suits everyone. It can be described in many hues- navy, denim, ocean, indigo, cobalt, cerulean, cyan, baby blue, iris, and royal. Its a universal colour- in some cultures it has religious significance, keeping bad spirits away. Navy blue portrays an image of intelligence, stability, and power in the corporate world. For knitters, its a colour that is relaxing and a favorite for summertime knitting.
Louisa Harding's charming peplum cardigan has a dreamy quality to it, knit in Rosetti, a softly twisted chunky yarn in a mix of merino wool and silk.Jane Ellison calms the waters with a denim blue zipped cardigan, knit in Antu-a pure cotton yarn in an array of variegated colourways.Sirdar has developed a huge following with Escape DK, a washable wool/acrylic blend in more than sixteen shades. This longer length cardigan for mother and daughter drifts casually through summer and fall.

The Tweed Theme Continues........

We are in the midst of a sweltering heat wave but somehow I can still manage to find a cool spot to work on the new samples for Fall. This week, I decided to continue the tweed theme and wound a few skeins of Llama Silk into cakes. Just having this gorgeous shade of Burnished Auburn staring at me is cooling in a way. Doesn't it make you think of crisp, cool days, when the leaves have fallen? Or maybe this shade, a vintage Merlot with lots of full body and depth?

Or this refreshing shade of Lime, the colour of new growth in the forest?
Or this intense Mulberry shade, a reminder of ripe blackberries to be picked and baked in a crusty pie?

Or a shade of Muskoka Pine, the tall trees sheltering the forest, keeping the air cool?

I am well into the second skein now, this yarn is a luscious blend of llama, sheep wool and silk in a chunky weight. Somewhere in the second skein I decided to just go for it, and knit a long coat with a notched collar, so that will be about 40 or 50 inches in length for this piece!

A Shawl Collared Vest

Well........ it took a few days but the vest is finished and on display. Tundra is lovely to knit with, maybe a tad warm and woolly to work on in the humid weather but with Fall approaching next month, its nice to be ahead by a stitch or two. The sample is a small size and takes just seven balls. There are plenty of sizes in the pattern, suitable for a man or woman. This colourway changes from grey, to navy and taupe. The last two weeks are always the busiest of the summer in Muskoka. It seems to be the most popular time for taking family holidays and some companies choose to shut down during this time. So its been very exciting to meet knitters from allover with such interesting stories to share and wonderful comments to pass along. Many familiar faces and new ones as well. Thank you for stopping in and taking the time to browse through the store.
